Haight Ashbury memories

It was 1964 and my brother and I drove down to San Francisco to visit the Haight Ashbury district for the first time. It was there that a multitude of vendors were offering a poster of a certain duck in a sensually compromising position. My brother, who was attending Berkeley at the time, was an avid fan of Joel’s comics, and filled me in on Joel’s popularity. So I purchased one, framed it and proudly hung it above my bed. Since then, Odalisque has remained there as a daily reminder of those wonderful, goofy, vibrant moments called the ‘60’s and of the creative genius of an artist of his times who was adept at capturing them.
