It was 1964 and my brother and I drove down to San Francisco to visit the Haight Ashbury district for the first time. It was there that a multitude of vendors were offering a poster of a certain duck in a sensually compromising position. My brother, who was attending Berkeley at the time, was an avid fan of Joel’s comics, and filled me in on Joel’s popularity. So I purchased one, framed it and proudly hung it above my bed. Since then, Odalisque has remained there as a daily reminder of those wonderful, goofy, vibrant moments called the ‘60’s and of the creative genius of an artist of his times who was adept at capturing them. Thank you, Joel!
